Kodak is redesigning their popular Vision 3 motion picture film.

Kodak Vision 3 Redesign Underway
If you are an avid film photographer hanging out in the back alleys of the film world, you have probably used some Cinestill film, which is Vision 3 motion picture film respooled with the remjet removed. Without the anti-halation layer the remjet provides, Cinestill’s films have a unique property that many photographers like: red halo’s around bright sources of light.
Personally I have not cared for that effect even though I do have several nice shots of it in my portfolio. My guess is that when the new formulation arrives with a different form of anti-halation, the Cinestill films will no longer have the red halo effect. Some photographers will undoubtedly be sad, but for me, I’ll embrace the new films assuming Cinestill will still be spooling.
The Vision 3 film in my opinion have some of the best “Creamy Dreamy” color rendition, which is why it is still a popular medium for motion pictures.
